Are you happy with the way the Stormbreaker movie turned out? I thought it was a horrible caricature of a smart, sleek novel. Mr. Horowitz should be kind of enough to give me a chance to adapt one of his novels. It's a hobby of mine, just to break out of writer's block while working on my originals. My son got my hooked on the series. We listen to it in the car. I was hoping for so much more out of the movie. As usual, but even more so, it didn't begin to touch the brilliance of the novel.

=]

Anthony Horowitz was the one who wrote the screenplay to the movie. In my opinion, it was a  fairly good adaptation of the novel.

I'll just be moving this to the right board =]

well, of course it would look fake..do you expect them to teach a teen so much REAL violence?? He could change later on.

No, I just think the car fighting seen was tooo much.
i totally agree perfectsilence it really was too much
and i would have perfered if they stuck to the book a bit more, it was a good movie but not the best movie of a book if you get what i'm trying to say

yeah i understand
but, we were warned it was gonna have more "action"
least i remember reading and hearing that in interviews
but yes... movie wise it was fine
for a big fan of the books it wasn't as great as we would have hoped

I think that the people who made the movie shouldn't have changed it as much as they did. For example there was one bit when alex was going through the mine. Was it just me or was that part really short?? It made it look like he randomly found a mine went in walked for a few minutes and found his way into the lab, or what ever it was. Also the end was nothing like in the book and i don't see why they had to change it. And alot of people have been talking about Sabina. I think it was good she got put in earlier so her and alex can build more of a relation ship.  grin

I think it was all a bit commercialised and hyped.

It just seemed like a bit of an empty shell and not much inside...

I love the series, but I doubt there will be a Point Blanc movie...

Roya Hawkins-the protagonist to my story

Funny, all the different opinions...
Here in America, there was no hype or advertising at all. Personally, I enjoyed the movie. Every person I forced to see Stormbreaker commented that they saw no reason for it being limited in the theaters. (221 screens in US. Earned $652,526.)
Anthony did a wonderful job. And, if they make more movies, I could see them being like the books-you get to know the characters more as each book comes out. I re-read all of them after finishing Ark Angel, and up to Skeleton Key I was asking myself why I liked Mrs. Jones and Blunt. I realized it was because they develop more in Scorpia and Ark Angel.
Anyway, one last bit. Before I saw Stormbreaker, I told myself that it had to pass three tests. (because I was so hyped, I thought I would be disappointed)
1. I had to like it
2. If it was better than Pirates 2
3. If my Dad (a severe critic) liked it
All three passed! I just recently saw Pirates 2 for the third time ever, and found it impossible to sit through the second half. I have watched Stormbreaker about 8-10 times and still like it.For me, it stands the test of time. To quote my dad, it grows on you.

I've seen the movie before i read the books, and i loved it. Then i read the book (just started, don't know why i waited that long, and i'm currently reading the 4th book), and decided to watch the movie again. Well, the movie is still nice, but the book is way better!!!

Few things i didn't like about the movie (SPOILERS):

-Sabina, well, i never really liked her in the books, but she wasn't very nice in the movies either. I mean, she was played well, i just don't really like her character.
-Yassen Gregorovich. That is my favorite character from the books (WHY DOES HE DIEEEEEE?Huh sad) was a bit weird. There is no way that i could imagine him screaming 'you stupid idiot', he was suppose to be calm etc. Anyway, and that accent that he had, it was just really weird, he was suppose to have no accent, and if he had any at all: it was supposed to be a very slight russian accent, this wasn't like that at all. I still thought he was the best in the films though  rolleyes (The character itself is still too good, just can't dislike him)
-Nadia Vole, she was too much.
-The jellyfish scene, it was too quick, while in the book it is very important.
-I got the feeling that there was very little time to really develop the plot, some things just went too quick.
-Alex didn't seem to do well undercover. First: he almost immediately tells Vole that his uncle was killed, and second: he says Stormbreaker is 'cool', and that's it.
-Jack and Nadia fight... yeah... sure...

Now the things that i did like (overall i thought that the movie was really good  grin)
-The opening scene was AWESOME!!!! One of the best i've ever seen!
-Ian Rider was very cool, and very well-played, much better than i could have imagined.
-Sayle, Alex, Blunt, Jones, Grin were great! (and the rest that i forgot too)
-The story wasn't slow, that was (as i mentioned before) sometimes a bit too fast, but at other times it was quite nice.
-The scene with Alex and Yassen in the end was great Cheesy

Well, i loved the movie, there were just some things i didn't like, but overall it was great Cheesy.

I just watched the movie about two weeks ago. I have to say it made me sick at first. I have read all seven books so it took me awhile to get used to the movie version of Alex Rider. However i finally got used to it but it was unfortunate that they showed Sabina when she does not even appear until the third book, let alone go to the same school as Alex. I certainly hope that the first movie made enough profit and rating to start the second movie in hollywood!  grin Just takes awhile to get used to the characters in their version  shocked! Especially Sayle. They totally changed his first name. I found that interesting. And is it just me? Or wasn't he suppose to be in his fiftys, bald with hair around his head, and very short? Thats how I imagined him anyway. Yassen was alot different from what I imagined too! To anybody who just watched the movie, read the books because there loads better than then film. Unfortunately I read the American version except snakehead because I didn't know there were two versions. However they only make minor changes nothing drastic.
