I know I'm very opinionated about the movie, so I'll try to say little. It's fine if people don't like the movie. I was looking forward to seeing several of my favorite parts on screen, and they were cut out. But....I think if you look at it as an Alex Rider film, and not rate it by comparing the descriptions and details to the book, it was great! Not the best, but a friend recently asked the name of it (she saw it with me over a year ago) because she had just seen Cody Banks, thought it was terrible, and wanted to see Stormbreaker again. As a movie, it is funny, fast paced, and entertaining. As long as you can get over the differences. The characters, in their actions and traits, are the same. Jack is never Japanise-ish in the books, but she is kinda strange and fun. Obsessing over Japanise stuff fitted her. And Sayle doesn't fit the description, but he is creepy. Every time I see him staring at Alex during dinner, especially in a close up shot, I recall Anthony Horowitz's phrase- "Sayle's pupils crawled to the front of his eyes, trying to get closer to Alex."
And Yassen-the book says he has no accent, but that he is Russian. He doesn't look particularly Russian, but people who haven't read the book need to know that he is, thus his accent.
And tons of other things I could ramble more about. I guess I'm writing because I love the movie and the books, and I'm OK with them being different. I think Anthony stuck true to the characters.
To support my opinion
, (for example) I have seen several versions of the book Treasure Island, one of my favorites stories. I am happy when they are quoting the book word for word, but my family-who hasn't read it-doesn't enjoy the movies much. Yet they like Treasure Planet, a twist off of Treasure Island. In T.P., they smush 2 characters into one, add the whole father figure aspect, change the captain's gender, and push the whole thing into the future. But it's my favorite version. Change can be good.
Wow. Way to much writing. Enjoy your opinions. I defiantly enjoy mine.

Well first post and i decided to talk about the movie and well frankly I'm gravely dissapointed about it
. I'v been reading Horowitz for years and always wanted to see a movie of Alex Rider but after the shameful performance of Stormbreaker Im in two minds about it.
Pros:
Stormbreaker wasn't the best book
Cons:
Point Blanc might be just as bad
Does anyone else feel like this!?

I'm not so sure...i mean,I quite liked the book...and the truth is, I've never actually got around to watching the whole movie:lol: but to be honest, i don't think it was that bad or that good (the bits I've seen) and point blanc has a different cast, somewhat, so it should be better.

well thanks for replying
what I mean is that it's not as good as it could have been there are soo many things that could make it better such as getting an actor to play herod sale that actually resembeled the description in the book.

how can you say that stormbreaker was not the best book. i don't know it's just my opinion but that's the book that started it all it may have not been the book with the most action but can you blame the guy?! it's his first mission

well the books are getting better as the series progress so actually although i dont think that any of the books are terrible compared to the rest of the series it is. The best way to think of stormbreaker is as a practice book, a way for Mr. Horowitz to try out this new angle, like the pilot show of a tv series

Yeah, that wasn't a little post way back when...
I do get the bit about Stormbreaker not being the best movie, and the book not being the best book. And Point Blanc is my least favorite Alex Rider book. I wish he could just make Skeleton Key into a movie!!

I agree with Jigsaw. I was really disappointed with this film so I only hope that they get better. Stormbreaker wasn't the best book in the series by far but the film definitely didn't do it justice. I think that the film looked great with all the explosions at the beginning but there were some serious problems with the acting esp from Alex Pettyfer.
I mean he's hot and everything but he just seemed kinda awkward throughout the whole movie so I'm glad that they'll be getting a different actor for Point Blanc. I saw the actress who played Nadia Vole in Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan and I thought that she did a pretty good job but in Stormbreaker I thought that she was terrible. Also the more experienced actors like Ewan McGregor and Alicia Silverstone's good acting just made Alex's seem Even worse in my opinion. Like at the start when Alex and his uncle are talking on the phone, Ewan kinda showed Alex up if you see what I mean.
Whoops that turned out to be a long post

i am soo glad someone agrees with me and i agree with you too blue ewan mcgregor is an excellent actor and his abilities were only accentuated by alex pettyfer who is quite possibly one of the worst actors ive seen......*coughs* "myley cyrus"

The funny thing is that yesterday I was watching some of the special features on the Stormbreaker DVD and Anthony Horowitz says something like, 'You can get the most star-studded cast money can buy but if the fourteen year old boy who plays Alex is wrong for the part then the movie isn't going to work.'
I think he hit the nail on the head right there except that he evidently did think that Alex Pettyfer was a good actor
All my friends really want to go see the new movie that he's in with Julia Robert's niece but I really don't think that I could sit through and hour and a half of his terrible acting.

I think Alex wasn't the best he could be in Stormbreaker but i thought he was great in Tom Brown's Schooldays.

I know that Alex was a bit screwy in a few parts (telling Mr. Grin to fly to London etc) but could you expand on his 'terrible' acting? I saw Tom Brown's School Days, and he was great. In Stormbreaker, I thought he simply played an awkward teen, vulnerable, a bit unsure of himself. Some of the worst parts were due to what he said-like when he spills the beans about his uncle being a security guard.
I think he was criticized more due to the fact that he is a 'pretty boy.' The movie people apparently think he can act. He is set up to star in a horror film, and in an interview he stated that he is moving to America next month or so because he has gotten alot of offers from here.
I know that if his quality of acting was based on his appearance of...being unsure of himself, that unsureness was a perfect way of portraying teen boys. I have four brothers, three in their teens, so I get to see them in all sorts of situations.
Does any of that make sense? Of course, we all have our opinions. I just get defensive about Alex because he really isn't a bad actor. Young and inexperienced, but not terrible.
If you want to see bad acting, watch the original Star Wars movies. I love them, but cannot help but laugh at some of the acting. (I'm told that is the director's fault)
Hannah Montanna...I haven't even dared to see her. But seriously, the movie wasn't that bad. More different than bad, I think.
Say...I'll end this now...on IMDB there are two Stormbreakers. This one, then one set for 2011, but there are no details about the 2011 one. Any ideas? A remake, or just another movie with the same name? Or a false rumor?
