I didnt mean reviews, I meant it didnt make enough money as they hoped it would. I missed it at the cinemas and it took me 3 months to find the dvd.
he was perfect, exactly how i imagined him. but long term, he unfortuantly isnt

haha it is something i would do, but no, it was three months after it was released that i finally found a copy. it might of been longer, i only knew it was released because i saw it in a rental store but souldnt get it at the time, but i was stubborn and wanted my own copy so i looked and looked and found ONE copy in kmart. every single time i went in there i looked and i finally found it by accident when they re arranged all their dvd's. havent seen another since.
but they really should of had more advertising. didnt even know it was out in the cinemas (or even being made) until the last showing when my friends went but i had to work

Me neither...I only found it was out by 2007 and even then it was just a tiny picture...so glad I got it though.

I for one, would love to see another Alex Rider movie, AND with Alex Pettyfer in it. I could forgive him looking older than he's supposed to be. Nothing drives me nuts more than changing the main character. Come on, isn't Alex being a little older a sacrifice you'd be willing to make in order to keep the main character the same? I would.
It is rather unfortunate that Stormbreaker bombed, but I think that had a lot to do with their targeted demographic. We don't read Alex Rider books because they're safe! We like our action! So, make the rating a little higher, get a new director, and target a slightly older audience.
Look at what it did for Harry Potter! I won't take my five year old to see them anymore, but you better believe I've already got tickets for opening night for myself!
And then there's the Release to DVD option as well, bypassing theatres all together. Let's face it, with home entertainment systems being what they are today, a lot of people would rather just wait for the movie to come to DVD and watch it at home. With the right amount of advertisement, I would highly recommend going this route.
Make a few changes, change your targeted demographic, advertise it a bit better, and I'd bet that the second movie does much better. It might even be worth AH taking a look at the FanFiction to see what his fans really want. (Action, and he can't be afraid to rough Alex up a bit, like he does in the books). Sorry for those in the UK, but I'm willing to bet it would do far better if it was released in the States first, as well. (lol, I'm neutral on location as I'm Canadian, and am speaking strictly to increasing the dollar value of the movie).
Otherwise, it's just another movie in a disturbingly long list of half started series. It's becoming a bad habit to start a series, and then never finish it, leaving the loyal who did their best to support it, SOL. (Eragon also comes to mind in this category).
As for finding sponsors for the movies, perhaps someone on AH's staff should take the time to print off, or photocopy what must be thousands of requests for another movie (from letters, this sites, Alex Rider sites, etc.) and add them in with the screenwrite. Equally, finding the nay sayers and hate mail could be educational as well, find out what went wrong with Stormbreaker, fix it, then please, please, please, give us one more chance!
One more movie to prove our loyalty (except this time let us know it's coming, eh? Especially if it's only going to be released to DVD). Just don't leave out the snowboarding on the train and the fake death scene at the hospital! That was the best part of Point Blanc! One more movie put out to an older audience, more mature, a little darker, and more like the book. If we fail you again, then I think most of us will grudgingly accept defeat.
I have a petition going in Facebook, and almost every single one of those people would love to see Alex Pettyfer return to the screen as Alex Rider (despite the probably now obvious age difference).
One more chance, please?
Sincerely,
Foreverwolf

wow you really seem to want a movie
but i personally dont hink that there will be one
there are many reasion. Well firstly there wasnt a good audiance and not many people enjoyed it that much apart from loving the main actor. It isnt exactally easy to make the movies esp with all of those bangs and crashes and what not. Its also recession at the moment so that makes it harder on top of that. But i know what you mean about wanting a movie its just that somehow i dont see it happening
but i loved your long post
honest XD

alex pettyfer cannot play alex rider. he's too old and there are actually people out there that'll fit alex a little better than him. plus, he uh........got a lot of tattoos in uh....places. so i think the fact that he'll be playing in a kid's movie is a bad idea because it might send wrong messages to the public.

Welcome to the board 3lliott. The movies are a good way to entertain a certain population of the audience, but it may also put that population away from reading, even if the film get the books more recognition.

i sort of agree with you SD, but i think that alex rider is just too good to be beaten by its own movies. like i said, movie suspense and book suspense are two very different things and by turning book suspense into movie suspense, they have to change some parts, so the movies will never trully beat the books.

The problem with 'Stormbreaker' the movie was that it was too contrived and did not smack of conviction. There were tongue-in-cheek moments which just did not work and really ought to have been left out (e.g. the nodding birds on the beach during a chase sequence, imitating an attempted comical moment in a Roger Moore Bond film). The novel was fantastic, because you felt and experienced what Alex went through, as if you were accompanying him every step of the journey and there was a seriousness about the novel which earned your respect. In the movie, it tried to spoof itself too often, which separated the viewer from a close sympathy (or empathy!) with Alex, which the novel demanded. The villains were not menacing enough and the bits of the movie in which I was supposed to feel pity for Alex didn't evoke my pity. It's about time that movie-makers thought about the atmosphere and ambience conveyed by a superb novel like 'Stormbreaker', rather than pillaging it for a bare-bones plot and fashioning it with their own ill-fitting flesh.
As for Point Blanc? Well, if The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton and the Batman reboot with Christian Bale reinterpreted the comparatively poorer Hulk and Batman movies with much greater success and conviction, I think Point Blanc is a wonderfully written novel that deserves a director who can be true to it and bring it to the masses! The flop of the film version of 'Stormbreaker' need not be an excuse for 'Point Blanc' not even being attempted by someone more in tune with Horowitz's vision.

Sorry for my persistence, but just one more point:
LOOK AT THE HISTORY OF THE BOND FILMS. 'Casino Royale' rebooted the fanchise in the form of Daniel Craig; 'For Your Eyes Only' was SO different to the Star Wars nod of 'Moonraker' and, though it can be argued that films like 'You Only Live Twice' has very little to do with the novel, the movies evolved.
If Bond can be different and still keep its audience for over 40 years, then a movie version of Horowitz's 'Point Blanc' can be an attempt to right the wrongs committed by the movie version of 'Stormbreaker'.
