That part about him killing Ian was something that I'd been wondering for a long time. I really wish that someone could've asked AH about that during that webchat earlier in July this year...
i think that he either didnt know who he was killing, or had a grudge against ian.  We might find out in the 8th book.

Well, there is of course a difference between killing your hero's brother or killing his son.

But the other thing: Yassen thought John was working for Scorpia, and obviously Yassen knew that Ian was working for MI6. Yassen must have thought that Ian knew John was working for Scorpia, yet didn't support him, and was on the 'other side'. That would actually mean that John and Ian were (from Yassen's point of view) enemies.

Alex, however, did not know that his father worked for Scorpia (as Yassen thought), and therefore didn't do something 'wrong' when he started working for MI6. He didn't have any idea. So Alex and John were not enemies, Alex just didn't know.

And Ian was a grown-up, who could make his own decisions, and decided to continue to work for MI6, while Alex never actually had a choice... and never heard of Scorpia either.

My two cents.

I think that for Yassen to die was actually quite a good move. He's an important character and he's an assasin so he fits the whole "death script" scenario. Anyway, if AH kept him alive much longer I think it seems likely that he'd take over the series. You can only have so much of every character that isn't the main one.

And why would that be a problem? grin

Anyway, it was a good move in one way: because if Yassen had not died we wouldn't be talking about this, right? But on the other hand: the parts of Eagle Strike where Yassen was there were better than the parts if he wasn't there. He is also the reason why i liked Eagle Strike better than PB and SK. But that's just a personal opinion wink

It wouldn't be a good thing because AH never intended for Yassen to be the absolute main character in the first place, he started off as one of the "auxillary" main characters and in my opinion it just completely ruins a series if half way through the books one of the auxillaries over-rides the main one, especially if you've grown up with real recognition of the original main character. That's my view anyway, AR just wouldn't be AR without AR himself at the helm of the series.

I know, i know, it was just a joke  wink I don't want Yassen to be the main character of the series, that would make the series too different, and would probably be a very bad choice. But that doesn't mean he had to die  sad

Yeah but I think that he'd been featured enough in the series anyway, is there any other main character other than Alex who's been featured so long? (Excluding background characters like Smithers etc)

I don't know if you would be calling Sabina a background character? I mean, she was in two of the books, just as Yassen, and she's coming back. And Alan Blunt is quite a main character, especially in Scorpia so far (and Mrs. Jones of course too).

And well, i loved the character of Yassen, and i'm really sad he's dead still  sad

Yeah! I really enjoyed Yassan too but he's served his purpose in the book.

Yeah, and haven't you guys noticed that in the AR series, the bad guys always die at the end? Well Yassen was a bad guy, so I wasn't surprised when he died...

Okay, I was surprised. But after that I was surprised that I was surprised...I think I'm losing it...  sad

This was pretty much what took me so long to read SCORPIA. I just though that since Yassen was gone, I might as well stop reading. He's the coolest fictional character ever, and would love to meet him. But, alas...
