hey guys, check out this new sample of a book I started. It's called SILICON STORM. WHAT d'ya thik?

Alex Rider was having fun. He lay on his back there on the sand of one of the numerous beaches of England in mid-March, watching gulls screaming for scraps of fish and the rush of waves crashing upon the rocks while letting the smooth sand brush upon his shoulders as if he was in a sauna. Watching the gulls eat reminded him of food, so he took out the sandwich he had brought with him and ate it with gusto. Then, after he had his sandwich, he put the plastic wrap in his little bag he brought and sighed, his body aching with pain after Kenya. Mementos flashed through his head of the RAW agent Rahim dying, of the Simba Dam exploding with water gushing out of cracks in the concrete, and of Reverend Desmond McCain disappearing in a column of flame like a judgment from heaven. He remembered Jack Starbright, his housekeeper distinctly saying that he should go relax somewhere, taking a break from the real world. This made Alex think, ?Why can?t MI6 leave me alone for a year?? Alex turned over and picked up the book he had brought with him. Bored, he flipped it open and began to read. The day began to pass by lazily minute by minute as time slowed down. Finally, after what seemed like days but was really hours, Alex grunted with exhaustion, kneeled, packed up his umbrella, towel, and bag, then stood and slowly began to walk towards home. While he was walking towards home, he began to think of starting his new video game of Assassin?s Creed, then going to the library for some light reading, and finally going to see Mrs. Jones. Suddenly, he stopped, for the visit to Mrs. Jones was what struck him odd. Usually he had a distaste for MI6 headquarters, but this time the visit seemed almost instinctual, as if fate intended him to be there. Alex resumed walking, reminding himself that if he found himself there then he was there. He noticed that he was getting nearer to his residence and he wondered if Jack would be in the house making sushi for lunch. As he stepped on the doorstep, the key to the lock in his hand, Alex wondered if Jack was even there, for the curtains were drawn, the blinds closed, and the lights off as if she left for the market. When he opened the door and stepped in, all doubts were washed away, for she was in the kitchen, humming a song on the radio. When Alex looked, she was making sushi, but also making onion rings deep-fried. Jack Starbright, Alex?s housekeeper, had tangled red hair and a round, boyish face. Upon seeing Alex, she smiled and said, ?Alex, why don?t you clean up after that beach and eat some sushi? I?ve made it especially for you.? Alex left for the bathroom to wash up, and ten minutes later, he came out. Alex simply said that he had to play Assassin?s Creed, go to the library, and visit Mrs. Jones. Upon hearing Mrs. Jones, Jack protested, saying that he couldn?t go to Mrs. Jones again ever since that journalist Harry Bulman kept on harassing Alex. But Alex simply said, ?It?s all right, Jack. It seems instinctual to me.? Finally, Jack resigned, letting Alex finish his lunch and play his video game. He let himself get absorbed into the graphics of his TV screen, mechanically using the controller. One hour later, he exited the house and calmly walked over to the library, fully clothed for a mild winter, and attempted to select a book. While absorbing book titles, he heard a faint shriek in a bookroom. Depositing all the books he had on a table, he went to investigate. When Alex arrived, there were two boys staring down a girl his age. Menacingly, the bullies advanced muttering threats about a flash drive.

Here is a link to a topic where if you post it you will get more people reading it  grin : http://anthonyhorowitz.com/msgboard/index.php/topic,5095.645.html

Also, now that i have read it i can tell you that it is quite good but you should use paragraphs instead of just having a big block of text...also, how can alex walk back from the beach to his house...doesn't he live in London???

I'm sure not many people would know this but I really want to know. What is the font Anthony uses in the Alex Rider books. I think it is really cool, and for any people that don't know what font means it is the type of writing in the book. Thanks for any answers!

This has already been asked probably a million times, but is there going to be another Alex Rider book after Crocodile Tears?  If I influence this decision at all, please do write another book.  I can't stop reading them.  Thanks!!

yes.  there's going to be a book about Yassen Gregorovitch next and then there is going to be one last book.  Also, there is supposedly another secret book that AH has mentioned.

hey i was just wonderin bout a few things as well.
What yea is Alex Rider set in? because the time in the books has only gone about 8 months or something, but really four or so years have passed. And Stormbreaker was published in 2003, but in Snakehead, which was published in 2007, mentions the 2004 boxing day tsunami. i find it a little confusing, can someone help me find an answer? huh

I guess Alex Rider isn't set in any particular year ... the books were written over the course of a decade, and with every book you'll find alot of things changing by year (for instance, a CD player in PB but an iPod in Ark Angel ... the mention of the Tsunami and so on.) Alex actually mentions the year he was born in a certain book (I can't remember which, but he said "I was two then ..." in response to a date), so over the years i suppose AH took the freedom to ignore the year-date, because it can get pretty restricting.

It'll give you a headache trying to work out the timeline xD I know the books work fine as if they are SET in those 8 months, but the information inside them regarding which year these 8 months took place isn't practical x] Good question, though, I wondered about that loads myself!

Welcome to the board!

ANSWER THE $#@*ing QUESTION!

« Reply #160 on: April 14, 2010, 12:36:20 PM »

I think it's set in 2003-4. But the technological changes and stuff are actually understandable if you consider the leaps and bounds. Last year touch phones were dead couple months later iPhones are everywhere. That stuff counts. Plus there is a certain amount of artistic license that can be taken even with the most "historical" account let alone a work of pure fiction. My opinion accept it as "Present" and let it go at that. It's mro precise than "the not too distant future/past" at the very least.

I have a question I just discovered today. While looking up something about Alex Rider, I came across the name " Yuri Grand " who, it lists as a member of Scorpia? I have read all the books and do not remember at all any mention of that name and I was wondering whether anyone else had or maybe it was something only mentioned in a spin off book like Mission Files or an interview?

I just tried to look it up on the internet for you. All I got was that he was apparently on the Executive board of Scorpia and is deceased. Oh and an Afghan. So he must of just been mentioned in passing at some point either during Scorpia or Snakehead?.
Sorry, I don't have the books with me at the moment so I can't look him up for you.

Yeah I looked in both books and I can't find any mention in the main series, could be in some other sort of book or maybe Anthony mentioned it in an interview at some point?
