Well, it took a while but the movie is playing at the cinemas since a few weeks back… It has been getting quite good reviews (about 3 out of five and that’s as much as a movie of this genre and target audience might expect).  More importantly the DVD (on Discshop) is out so I got it and just watched it…
I must say I am quite pleased…only hated one thing... more about that in a moment.  I cheated by reading the Manga-novel first so I did NOT get disappointed with the changes (because I was not surprised). It is strange though… it must be the first time in history when a movie has to struggle to keep up with the action in the book it is based on… I am fascinated with A.H’s writing!

Oww… my Cornish Rex kitten Exit just climbed onto my shoulder… sorry… He’s trying to get to the cursor on the screen which makes it a LITTLE bit hard to write…

There… now he has a piece of paper to kill…

Now, then: the only thing I HATED about the movie was the jellyfish… not the model itself (must be hard to make so it moves right…) but the sound effects! A jelly fish that makes sounds at all is strange, but ELECTRICAL?  Watching a fish die in the tentacles of a real jellyfish is scary enough… the man-o-war is an actual animal that really can kill people VERY painfully…. Couldn’t they find ANY other way to show that… a clip from “Animal Planet” perhaps? ;o) Come ON, people!

Otherwise I quite enjoyed the little jokes and spoofs… I actually had to rewind to watch the “logo-shot” again (nobody missed that, I guess… in the tunnel with the flashlight?). Loved that.

Sooo.. I’m quite old for these sorts of books I guess at 29, but thank you Anthony for not making me feel TOO old… I feel sorry for those who are not kids at heart, so a special hello to other old geezers out there, and to you who are the “right” age: lucky *Fella's*! Enjoy one of the greatest decades in children’s literature and see to it to get smart enough to continue it…. I want something to read in the old folks home!

Edit:DM: not sure if the other word was allowed..
