I believe that all the casting was handled by the casting director, and while Anthony Horowitz did meet up with Alex Pettyfer (and proclaimed him perfect for the role), it was after Pettyfer was chosen...but then I could be completely wrong xD

Id think that he has a big say in what happens. Didn't he say somewhere that he wanted the film to be very much like the book? So he would have to be there to make sure it was just right. I think lol  tongue
